Zoo Quest to West Africa

1955

In September 1954, David Attenborough, cameraman Charles Lagus, Jack Lester and Alf Woods, both from the Zoological Society of London, set out for Sierra Leone. They spent three months intently surveying the landscapes of Sierra Leone in search of nature’s rarest animals. Although predominantly searching for Picathartes gymnocephalus (the White-necked Rockfowl) they hoped to take back to London a representative collection of the whole of animal life in this part of Africa.

Glide over Maui's Haleakala National Park and discover the diversity of Hawaiian landscapes. Island hop to Lanai for spectacular beaches. This is the story of sound. Everything in the universe produces a unique acoustic signature called a soundscape. From Arctic ice sheets, to viruses, from planets to human beings. Sound is part of our culture, our heritage and an often overlooked part of all ecosystems on Earth. It is the music of the living world, but as we lose natural habitats all across the globe, we also lose its soundscapes. This film centers around the life work of Bernie Krause, a legend in the world of acoustics and soundscape ecology. To date, Bernie has recorded over 1200 individual habitats among his collection of over 50,000 individual recordings (his collection is now the largest collection of wilderness sounds in the world that spans decades of time).

Super Hunts, Super Hunters

Lions, leopard, cheetah, hyena, wild dog and crocodile - extraordinary scenes of super predators hunting. The Super Predators was filmed over three years at Londolozi Game Reserve in South Africa and on Kenya's Masai Mara. It captures some of the most extraordinary scenes ever seen on film of these super predators hunting and killing. Dramatic slow-motion action replays allow the viewer the opportunity of observing all the subtleties of these magnificent hunters in action. The film includes a plea for the world's most notorious predator, man, to work in closer partnership with nature for our mutual benefit and survival.

Ice Bridge - Mackinac Island’s Hidden Season

Mackinac Island, Michigan, is a tiny island in the center of the Great Lakes. Besides being a world favorite "Horse Drawn" and "Victorian Era" summer destination, the island holds another treasure few have ever seen: its wild, magical and beautiful winters. The 72-minute film Ice Bridge follows islanders' unique and quirky lifestyle throughout an entire year while tracing the formation of the spectacular phenomenon known as the "ice bridge" (a three-mile span of ice that allows islanders to cross to the mainland).
